Cannabinoids and medical science
Cannabinoids are a part of official medical science in most of the EU and other western countries for nearly a decade. Most practicing medical doctors however still lack education and support to treat their patients with cannabinoids.
Indications for cannabinoids
Cannabinoids in most developed countries are prescribed to patients as an add-on therapy to improve conventional drug treatment protocols. They are usually also indicated when standard treatment protocols do not offer satisfactory results.
Types of conditions
Cannabinoids treatment consulting, according to a vast body of scientific evidence, could potentially be useful to patients with chronic diseases and serious illnesses. Usually these illnesses are cancer, rheumatoid illnesses, neurological illnesses etc. Increasing number of patients is requesting also preventive counselling related to sleep and mood disorders, seasonal infections etc.
Consulting focuses on dosing, interaction between cannabinoids and other medications (drug-drug interaction) and indications/counter indications given patients clinical picture.
In providing consulting the Institute collaborates with an international team of medical doctors that specialize in pain prevention, palliative care, neurology, preventive medicine etc.
This type of consulting focuses on preventive application of cannabinoids to improve overall health and wellbeing, to address poor sleeping patterns, to improve resistance to stress. Patients in this case do not have a diagnosis of chronic disease or any pharmacological therapy.
Patients provide the Council with written information about their illness or problem (patient self-assessment). The Council shall issue a written opinion and indicative recommendations within one week. It is possible to continue consultations mainly to optimize dosing.
This service focuses on the use of cannabinoids as an "add-on" therapy in chronic diseases and in the case of concomitant use of drugs. The suitability of cannabinoid use for an existing diagnosis is checked individually based on published studies. In the scientific literature, the expression of cannabinoid receptors on the affected organs or tissues and their specificity (CB1, CB2, TRP receptor family) is checked. Possible interactions with existing drugs are examined and the dosage and route of administration of cannabinoids are advised.
In the extended consulting package, patients provide the council with written information about the diagnosis, including histological findings, indicating medications and their daily doses, and the symptoms that trouble them, despite the therapy introduced. The Council shall issue a written opinion and indicative recommendations within one week.
Patients with more severe medical conditions are treated with priority.
If necessary, patients are also provided with periodic consultation and assessment of the condition and, if necessary, optimization of the dosing regimen.
